Company Culture: “A couple of years ago, our staff was asked to describe our culture with words that would convey who we are to others. The words they chose, which were adopted and displayed on our careers page, are: Honest, Motivated, Resourceful, Collaborative, Versatile, Receptive, Attentive, Respectful, Proactive, Creative, Evolvable.”

Perks and Benefits: “The most compelling perk offered recently has been our Wellness Initiative. Not only do we provide fresh fruit in our kitchen for the staff, but we offer three additional paid hours of time off for staff to get their annual physical. In addition, our employees have a website where they can log the results from their physical and get a comprehensive report about their overall health, as well as log activity, calories, etc. We all honor a ‘healthy only’ food rule, which means we no longer bring in cakes and cookies to share. Instead, we only share fruits and vegetables, and the company provides fresh fruit in our kitchen. Our birthday and anniversary parties are now celebrated with strawberry shortcake instead of a cake from a bakery. Health tips are shared at every staff meeting and we have walking groups that take a walk around the block during their 10-minute break. Our staff has collectively lost about 55 pounds so far.”

Fun Things: “It’s a big question; we do lots of fun things. Last year’s Team Building Day was especially fun. Two teams were challenged to a scavenger hunt where they had to take a picture in various locations around our office building. For instance, they had to take a picture with a retail worker, with a building worker, in a serene place, at the bus stop, with the funniest thing they could find, and with a strategically placed company logo that was hidden in the building. The teams then had to creatively put their photos into a presentation. Creativity was our theme that year, so this event was intended to reinforce our focus while having some fun.” – Eden McClellan, vice president/COO
